What are the odds to meet someone
in a big crowd, far away from home

I know only two German guys here in Korea: Tillo and Sasha. We met them because they're also married to Koreans and have children around our son's age. My wife opened a Kakao chat (It's the dominant chat application in Korea similar to WhatsApp) group for moms of foreign babies here in Seongnam, which is how we met.
Last weekend, we visited my wife's parents and stayed overnight. They live within walking distance from Itaewon in Seoul, basically a district close to the US Army base where many foreigners reside, along with numerous clubs, bars, and pubs.
Since our son was born two years ago, we haven't been out for a drink at all. Even before that, we only went to Itaewon for drinks twice. This time, we walked through the streets lined with clubs to check it out—interestingly, my wife had never been to a club before. In the end, though, we ended up in a cocktail bar where we enjoyed some tasty drinks: she had a cosmopolitan and I had a tequila sunrise.
It wasn't very late yet, so we decided to check out another bar. We went outside and were walking when suddenly we saw a familiar face—it was Tillo, one of the two German guys we know here in Korea. They invited us to a Halloween party last year; it was great! Anyway, such a coincidence that on the one night we go out in Itaewon, this happened—and we met randomly at the subway entrance where he was heading home while we just walked by. What are the odds?
This isn't the first time something like that has happened to me. While still in university, I visited my cousin in London. It was late and I was walking out of the subway and across a very busy crossing, among thousands of others. In the middle of it all, suddenly there was a familiar face—a guy from university who is one year above me! He was in London for a job interview and had just randomly walked onto this street. The week before, we both saw each other at university—what are the odds of seeing him in the middle of London?
Another time, I was flying to Japan and met a German guy who lived in Norway, while I lived in Sweden. He was an interesting guy, so we exchanged Facebook usernames and talked a bit on Facebook, but that was it.
A couple of years later, I was flying somewhere with a layover in Frankfurt. I was walking to my gate when suddenly there was a familiar face—it was Jürgen from the flight to Japan! We sat down, had a beer together, and talked more about traveling and stuff. In the middle of a huge airport in a third country, meeting this guy again who randomly was my seatmate on an airplane a couple of years ago and who was a cool dude—what are the odds?
